Melding of Employee Recognition and Employee Performance Improvement Programs

Several years ago, Carlson Marketing did a study that showed a strong correlation between employees who are satisfied with their jobs and companies with positive business outcomes. The Incentive Research Foundation has shown studies that point to the critical importance of employee recognition. They go on to outline the importance of linking the reward activities and measuring the cost of the program and benefits gained.
This language is reminiscent of years of study and research by the largest companies in the full service incentive industry who planned and implemented employee performance improvement award initiatives that were designed to produce quantifiable results. It would seem that the recognition business as we’ve know it comprising mainly of the years of service and traditional merchandise recognition award companies are slowly melding into the tenets and philosophies of the full service incentive companies. The future of how these companies compete with each other will be interesting to see. We’ve seen similar results in our studies on the importance of employee recognition in building employee engagement. A lot of companies struggle with this.
