Most Incentive Reward Programs Don’t Produce Results.

There were some startling conclusions drawn in research conducted by Kluger, Avraham and Angele DiNishi entitled “Feedback Interventions: Toward the Understanding of a Double Edged Sword” and published in Current Directions in Psychological Science.  In it were the following:

  • Only 1/3 of all non-cash incentive award programs  produce results
  • 1/3  of non-cash incentive award programs produce no results
  • 1/3 of all non-cash incentive award programs actually decrease performance

Award companies rarely show this type of research to a client, even though it was something that many of us in the industry have known for years.  It is not uncommon for a program to have only 50% or less of the participants actually performing above goals, earning awards and producing results.  We will be happy to share some of the reasons incentive programs don’t work and the things you can do to make your award programs more successful.  contact us us for more information.
